The Greater Pittsburgh Dalmatian Club will offer AKC Coursing Ability Tests (CATs) during the Butler Autumn Classic as a fun and interactive activity for exhibitors and spectators. They will offer 2 CATs on Saturday and 2 CATs on Sunday - Four (4) CATs total for the weekend!! The first thing to know about the CAT is that – as with all of our tests – dogs do not compete against each other. Each dog runs individually and chases after an artificial lure on either a 300- or 600-yard long course. Your dog must finish in less than 1 ½ minutes and 2 minutes, respectively. Because the course is for beginners, it is set up with safety in mind, as we recognize that many of the dogs are new to the sport and might not possess the agility of an experienced sighthound. AKC Coursing Ability Test is open to all interested participants.
Not sure where to get started? You can ALWAYS volunteer to work the day of CATs to get a better understanding of how it all works behind the scenes and talk to others who run the sport on a regular basis.
